What’s an element ?

Element : An element consists of only one kind of atom, cannot be broken down into a simpler type of matter by either physical or chemical means, and an element can exist as either atoms (e.g. argon) or molecules (e.g., nitrogen).

Difference between molecules and compounds?

Read it carefully: A molecule is when two or more elements are chemically bonded together.

A compound is two or more different elements chemically bonded together. Got it?

This may give you more clarity: a compound has two or more different types of elements bonded together. And there are 118 elements on the periodic table.

To have a compound, there needs to be at least two of these elements. There are several compounds around us . The water you drink is made up of two hydrogen items and one oxygen atom. Hydrogen and oxygen are different elements that’s why water is a compound.
